Bye Bye Wall, Hello Space!

My general contractor is out of the country on vacation for a week, an unexpected delay. The foundation leveling is complete and all the old skirting has been torn down. The wall to the fourth bedroom has been taken down to open up the living room, pictures below.

Guess what they found under the carpet and laminate? Original hardwood! New floors were not in the budget, so thank the renovation fairy.

Here is a floor plan I made showing the new dimensions. Thats right folks, 35 feet wide, talk about open spaces.

Contractor is back in town this weekend, so we will see how much we can get done next week before Thanksgiving.

Demo!

After a week of waiting, the permit from the city came in yesterday. Today was day one of the demolition 

This is the view from the back door. All the walls have been stripped so that you can see the front door from the back of the house. 

The electrician should be in tomorrow, once he has done his thing this wall will be knocked out making the fourth bedroom the living room,

This is the master bedroom. Unsure as to why they pulled down the ceiling but that would be all the old insulation on the floor. I was unable to get to the master bathroom to see what, if any, progress was made there today. 

It was surprisingly unsettling to see the house gutted. It went from being more or less livable to a construction zone. I will just have to keep reminding myself that it will be like new when I move in.  

This is/will be the guest room. Later on there will be new windows installed, new ceiling fan, new carpet, and paint.
